See why Alphonso Davies is unhappy at Bayern Munich

Alphonso Davies has expressed a desire to move further forward on the pitch, feeling “stuck” in his current left-back role at Bayern Munich.

Davies, who initially broke through as a winger for MLS side Vancouver Whitecaps, transitioned to left-back upon joining Bayern in 2019 and has excelled in that position since then. However, he still harbors a strong desire to return to his roots and play as a winger once again.

In an interview with the Say Less podcast, Davies revealed that he was initially signed by Bayern to replace Arjen Robben and was later shifted to left-back due to an injury to David Alaba. Now, after several years in that position, Davies admits he is eagerly awaiting the opportunity to play further forward.

“I was signed to replace Arjen Robben,” Davies told the Say Less podcast. “And when David Alaba got injured, I was then used as a full-back. And now, three, four years later, I’m stuck there.”

With two years left on his contract at Bayern, Davies’ agent has indicated that talks regarding an extension may be postponed until next season due to the instability in the club’s boardroom. This uncertainty has attracted interest from clubs such as Manchester City and Real Madrid, with Davies’ agent already engaging in discussions with several teams.

However, Davies’ preference to return to a forward role could complicate matters for both Manchester City and Real Madrid, as they are actively seeking new left-backs. Despite his success as a left-back, Davies had an impressive final MLS season as a winger, contributing eight goals and ten assists for the Vancouver Whitecaps.

The situation surrounding Davies and his desired role may influence his future decisions as well as the transfer plans of interested clubs.
