Twitter vs Instagram. Which is more influential?

Since the Invention of Social media in 1997, we have seen The Rise and Fall of many social media platforms like Myspace, Friendster and Vine. And in their place platforms like Facebook, Twitter and YouTube have risen.

Although Twitter and Instagram may not be the biggest interfaces in terms of numbers of users, they are part of the most influential social media apps in our society, as seen in the start of trends and hot topics around the world.

So now to the important question. Which app between these two is the most influential?

I have compiled these reasons as seen below through my personal experience and opinions with these apps.

First of all, it must be acknowledged that Instagram absolutely floors Twitter in terms of number of active users (2 billion vs 556 million) which may likely lead to Instagram having a bigger impact on people.

However, I do not believe Instagram is the most influential between the two, as most Instagram users copy trends from other apps like Tik-tok. Therefore, implying that rather than being an "influencing" app, Instagram is an "influenced" app.

Whereas with Twitter, it is an app that is known for its hot takes, think pieces and controversial opinions, which can subconsciously influence your opinions and beliefs and therefore, in my opinion makes it more of an influential app that Instagram.
