It’s not everyday you get to see a hard studio collaboration in the UK scene like this one. We get to witness a blend of swagger and reflection peppered with puns on cars, clothes, women, and footballers in Dave and Central Cee‘s surprising joint EP – Split Decision. Following the single ‘Sprinter’ which arrived earlier and was anticipated to be the limit of this collaboration, Split Decision was released at midnight on the two nights that the pair celebrated their 25th birthdays. Instead, they collaborate on a four-track EP that showcases their shared talents and real connection.

“Split Decision” was released to coincide with Central Cee’s and Dave’s respective 25th birthdays (Central Cee on Sunday, June 4, and Dave on Monday, June 5), marking an important life milestone for both artists. The four-track EP has the previously released “Sprinter” as well as three brand-new songs, including “Our 25th Birthday,” a new entry in Dave’s fan-favorite birthday freestyle series, which also includes “My “19th Birthday” and “My 24th Birthday”, which first appeared on the Game Over EP. On track three of the album, Kamal, a former associate who was featured on Dave’s hit “Mercury,” also makes an appearance.

The four-song EP, Split Decision, showcases Central Cee’s and Dave’s passionate delivery and exceptional production expertise.  The album has the aforementioned track in addition to three brand-new songs. The two UK rappers have developed a bond on this project that pulls out the best in each other. They utilized their crude rap styles throughout the project as they breezed over the dazzling production on the studio record.

Detailed Review of Dave & Central Cee EP, Split Decision

“Split Decision” was released as a surprise project on Dave’s 25th birthday, the day after Central Cee. The EP, “Split Decision”, highlights the wit, dexterity, and nuance of the Londoners’ rhymes, three qualities that have helped them – Dave & Central Cee – establish themselves at the top of UK rap at a young age.

Typically as their music usually speaks, Dave and Central Cee don’t let arrogance go unchecked. As the “Split Decision” EP opens, Cench pauses to reflect on the psychological scars his path has left while Dave is suddenly brought back to the trauma of being wrongfully arrested after a romantic experience develops over the elegant strings and energetic bass of “Trojan Horse (track 1)”. On this track, one of Dave’s best rhymes references conflict and struggles around the experience. It’s a fantastic back-and-forth song that establishes the EP’s tone and gets better from there.

Notably. a Ferrari F40 being carried onto a yacht in Monaco for the event as the artwork set a joyful mood that the summer-ready lead single, “Sprinter (track 2)“, emboldens while jokingly weighing the pair’s success with cars, women, and Amex cards. “Sprinter” is a proper hit as it entered the charts at number one and it is anticipated to remain there for the duration of the summer. The two UK MCs are having a good time while boasting about their cars, clothes, women, and money, but it’s obvious that they are both conscious of the superficial nature of these pursuits.

The next song, “Our 25th Birthday (track 3)”,  demonstrates their compatibility and shows that Dave and Central Cee are also at ease trading more somber, sensitive lyrics. You get the impression that this is the song that convinced Dave and Central Cee to go for an EP over a single release. The two are connected in more ways than simply their tight age disparity, and it’s encouraging to see how their mutual respect has resulted in such a fantastic initiative.

Moreover, the appeal of Split Decision is how harmonious Central Cee and Dave’s relationship and perspective are. They reflect on their upbringings in London, describing the hardships they encountered and comparing them with the fortune they have amassed. The two rappers discuss juggling their love lives with fame, rising above the trap, and navigating the spotlight on “My 25th Birthday”, which has lush piano notes and thudding percussion.

The album’s outro, “UK Rap (track 4)”, is another song that is sure to score well on the charts. Each man sings the catchy hook, which reveals where these two perceive themselves right now. Even though the majority of the album is made up of light, carefree production, nonetheless Evan’s drill-heavy production puts Central Cee and Dave on the front foot as they deliver swaggering assurance and flawless wordplay. We get to see two of the most significant rap artists in the UK at the moment put out a superb performance.

Final Thoughts

Even if the project, “Split Decision” is a brief EP, it still affects music fans and listeners. The two rappers’ synergy is on point, and you get some outstanding exchanges throughout the EP. For example, the ideas, flows, principles, and punchlines shared by Cee and Dave are quite similar.

The “Split Decision” EP also includes some really refined drill tunes, I’m not quite sure I’ve ever heard two rappers sound so cohesively like the way Dave and Central Cee turned up on the EP. Furthermore, This project’s lead single, “Splinter”, by Dave and Central Cee ended up shattering records in the UK. That is indeed how well and famous these two artists are at the moment.

Notably, in addition to bar-trading with Central Cee, Dave made additional contributions to the project. On three of the album’s four songs, he is in charge of co-production – that’s pretty iconic, I must say! Though on the powerful closer, “UK Rap”, the Streatham rapper, Dave, delegates the drill-centric production to Kyle Evans – you may need to note that he handled three out of four tracks production on the “Split Decision” EP.

Split Decision is a four-track EP, so it may not likely be regarded as an absolute classic, but it’s an excellent duo to help the British summer get off. All in all – Split Decision, “Central Cee and Dave’s surprise EP”, is the ideal UK collaboration between these two iconic characters in the UK rap scene.
