Love And Friendship In Grad School

Love is unplanned, unprecedented and one of the most sentient feelings one could ever experience. Friendship and love, and more broadly, the relationships that people cultivate in their lives, are some of the most valuable treasures a person can own. But you know what is also fun? Grad School. It could hit you on your way to class, the library, anywhere. Love exists even among friends, the board that surfs the waves of friendship. What is interesting the most is when people are asked the basic necessities of life — people will say good, water and shelter but rarely do people ever list friendships and close relationships.

Graduate school is the apex of education, the holy grail of academia. It is common knowledge to have the inkling of how busy it is relatively but could it be proposed that there’s no ambiance of love and friendships?

For a freshman in the nascent epoch, life presents itself to be overwhelming, a natural phenomenon. Having to juggle life as a student and a human being tends to be a hassle, especially having that school-life balance. How do friendships come in handy? People are ubiquitous. Settling into a new environment attracts friendships and relationships. Friends are important in feeling human. Generally speaking, no one would want to feel the tinge of isolation. Friends are needed to live life, keep up with academics when absent, and study together. Friendships and. relationships are the psychological equivalent of food and water; in other words, these relationships are vital. for survival.

Love on the other end is secondary. One could graduate without being in a relationship. To what extent could that be said of love? This does not discredit the emotions one may likely feel that gears towards being in a relationship. In fact, no one should ever be under the cosh to be in one. Whilst life has its way of being “life”, for some, it could be a source of attrition to their education, and for others, not at all. If a typical Nigerian parent had a talk with their children just before grad school, it’s pretty clear they would emphasize on the salient need to focus on one’s academics.

Love and friendships will keep one going. For an average of a four year course, 90% of times would be spent in school, with friends, colleagues etc. Alliances need be formed . Friendships need be built. Even in the international system, states maintain friendly relations with one another. Why? No one can live in isolation for long.

With the advent of technology , social media itself has taken friendships and love in graduate schools and the world at large, to another dimension. People use the internet with the goal of meeting and making new friends, students in grad school inclusive. Virtual relationships and friendships can make a difference in grad school especially in trying times. Grad school is a long bumpy road. It is important to let love and friendship lead.
