Napoli Coach Gives Reasons Why Osimhen Should Not Be Sold

The new manager of Napoli, Rudi Garcia has reportedly told the Italian Serie A champions that he wants Nigeria international, Victor Osimhen to remain at the club beyond this summer.

Osimhen’s outstanding 31-goal contribution (26 goals and 5 assists) from 32 league games played a key role in Napoli’s first Serie A win in 33 years. Additionally, he created history by becoming the first African to take home the coveted Capocannoniere title (highest goalscorer award) in Serie A.

Osimhen’s outstanding accomplishments have unsurprisingly attracted the attention of numerous elite European clubs, including Manchester United, Chelsea, Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain, and Real Madrid.

Amidst that, Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis and Osimhen’s representatives have yet to reach an agreement over a contract extension with barely one month until the start of the Serie A season.

Even though his contract with the club will expire on June 30, 2025, it is believed that signing a new contract with the club this summer would keep him at the club for at least one more season.

On July 19, when Osimhen returns to training, it is anticipated that he would discuss his future in person with the club’s new coach Garcia, and the coach would make an effort to persuade the 24-year-old to commit his future to the squad.

According to a quote from La Repubblica, Garcia had said that it would be a big challenge to replace a player like Victor Osimhen and he wishes to work with the prolific goal scorer in the 2023-2024 season.

“Replacing Osimhen would not be an easy task. His presence provides us with greater certainty and serenity as we aim to defend our title”, the French tactician said.

Even though Rudi Garcia has reportedly told Napoli that he does not want Osimhen or his attack partner, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia to be sold, the president of the club had said the club would have no choice but to sell the Nigerian star if an “indecent” offer is made by his suitors this summer.

The “indecent” offer which could tempt the club to sell their most priced asset is said to be in the region of 150 to 180 million euros.
